苏州 (Suzhou)
Visual Diary

2019, print + web
A two-part visual diary of my trip to Suzhou during the summer of 2019. Consists of  custom typography studies and graphic interpretations of the city. Overarching theme centered around the intermixing of the old and  the new.
ZINE (48-pages staple-bound, 5.5”x8.5”)
Section 1: Individual Graphic Elements
The classical gardens of Suzhou embody the idea of harmony within each element in the park - the rocks, greenery, and architecture are all carefully chosen and composed to fit in harmony with each other and the environment. I wanted to emphasize this emphasis on the whole by initially displaying just the silhouettes, so readers pay more attention to the overall form of the elements.

Section 2: Reconstructed Scenery
I Wanted to portray the mix of old and new elements in Suzhou, so I used heavily computer-generated graphics in Cinema 4D and Photoshop. The mix of subject matter, with IKEA chairs and traditional window designs, further drives this idea.
